MOVING MOUNTAINS

Moving Mountains is a premier provider of luxury vacation rentals and tailored concierge services with hundreds of handpicked privately-owned homes in Steamboat Springs, Vail, Beaver Creek and Breckenridge, Colo. They first partnered with WildRock for an exclusive media event in 2016 in Steamboat, then brought WildRock on as their PR agency of record to spearhead earned media relations efforts. Without an existing marketing department at the time or in-house expertise in PR, the challenge for Moving Mountains was to seek out a partner with established media relationships in travel/tourism that could secure placements in top-tier outlets related to domestic travel/tourism, high luxury, regional Colorado, local mountain markets and even international. The goal year-over-year for Moving Mountains is to increase brand awareness through quality third-party media validation.

Our Approach

The PR approach for Moving Mountains is focused on proactive outreach to target outlets and contacts through customized pitches, press releases, interview coordination, media visit facilitation and occasional coordinated media events. All efforts are strategically evaluated and outlined in a high-level PR plan developed each year that dictates key messaging, target media, planned tactics, pitch angles, press releases and timing. Feature stories are preferred but other opportunities for coverage are also pursued to achieve placements goals each year including roundups, mentions, briefs, syndicated coverage and direct runs of a press release.

The Steamboat Experience

In 2016, WildRock hosted “The Steamboat Experience” – an exclusive, invite-only media event featuring 27 outdoor companies and 15 journalists for a weekend of personalized, hands-on brand exposure. As the official lodging partner, Moving Mountains set the stage for an experience media would never forget. From inviting media to coordinating sponsors to itinerary planning and all the details in between, WildRock orchestrated a complex concept without a hitch and delivered media attention for participating clients from outlets such as GearJunkie, Steamboat Magazine, Colorado Expression and more. To reprise the media event concept with Moving Mountains, WildRock once again organized an exclusive event in 2020 with a more focused concept targeting female journalists and spotlighting just two other participating brands. A total of seven freelancers attended from New York, L.A. and Colorado from outlets including AFAR, Outside, Parade, SELF, Health, PopSugar, Magnolia Journal, Real Simple, USA Today and others. Not only did this event result in traditional media coverage, attendees were also very active on social media posting about their experience and tagging participating brands.
